Weston & Sampson designed an innovative/alternative wastewater treatment plant that applies an alternative aquaculture/wetlands treatment option in a greenhouse environment to provide nutrient removal and a high-quality effluent for the Town of Ashfield, Massachusetts. Our design helped Ashfield resolve a pollution problem that was once referred to by the state Attorney General’s office as the "second worst pollution problem" in Massachusetts. This project is the first municipal wastewater treatment facility of its kind to be designed and constructed.
To meet the strict requirements of state officials, we adhered to an aggressive project completion schedule. Our design earned us a 1998 American Consulting Engineers Council of New England (ACEC/NE) Engineering Excellence Award.
