Amesbury's Low-Pressure Sewer and Grinder Pump System

In 1988, Weston & Sampson received the American Consulting Engineers Council of New England (ACEC/NE) Engineering Excellence Award for our design of a low-pressure sewer and grinder pump system around Lake Attitash in Amesbury, Massachusetts. This project was crucial for protecting the lake, the town’s greatest natural resource, which was experiencing water deterioration due to the prevalence of aging, substandard, subsurface disposal systems along its shores. The difficult topography of the area made it necessary to utilize individual grinder pumps for residences located directly on the lakefront. We installed these pumps adjacent to the homes with many installations in extremely tight quarters due to the high density of development.

In addition to its ACEC/NE recognition, the project was also a finalist in the ACEC National Awards Competition for that year.
