Salt Storage Facility

Planning, Design, and Construction of Salt Storage Facility

Weston & Sampson assisted the Town of Wellesley with the planning, design, and construction of a new salt storage facility. The project team assisted the town with evaluation of salt storage options, structure sizing, and location. The final design was a high arch gambrel with two canopies for storage of equipment. The salt storage structure also houses deicing liquids with  a remote-controlled pumping/spray system.

The site of the salt shed was complicated by a mixed use with the town’s DPW yard, limiting developable area, affecting traffic patterns, and raising concerns from adjacent residences. Construction was challenging due to the small developable area, DPW yard operations, contaminated soils, and undocumented fill. Weston & Sampson provided cost-effective engineering solutions to overcome these site challenges.
