Owner’s Rep / Redevelopment of Former Bus Garage

Weston & Sampson was selected by Nuestra Comunidad Community Development Corporation to provide owner’s representative and management services for the redevelopment of the former Bartlett Yard Bus Garage, located in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston.

The garage had operated for many years as both a terminus and maintenance facility for the orange line subway and as a bus garage operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). The site redevelopment will include mixed residential and commercial with a school.

As owner’s representative, Weston & Sampson has assisted the client to obtain cleanup funding through EPA for this project. Our team completed an evaluation of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives and presented the cleanup of the project to the local neighborhood. The project is one of the many initiatives and redevelopment projects in the Nubian Square area of Boston. This Environmental Justice Neighborhood is a vibrant community, and the Nuestra project is critical in its redevelopment.

Weston & Sampson has provided comprehensive planning, design, and management services, including LSP, remediation, and demolition design support services. We prepared design documents, assisted in contractor selection and procurement, and provided construction administration and oversight services. We also provided soil management services for tens of thousands of cubic yards of soil, including on-site reuse and off-site disposal. Weston & Sampson coordinated with the site development team so that remediation was concentrated in those areas that will have higher exposure to future site users. In addition, Weston & Sampson is incorporating sustainable practices to reduce the carbon footprint of the design and limit impacts to the neighborhood.

Once complete, the 8-acre lot will be transformed into an area providing housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents and a vibrant creative district featuring green technology where possible, as well as a public events plaza, public market, shops, and interactive arts.
