Replacement of West Lake Drive Bridge over Miner Brook
Weston & Sampson was responsible for field survey, design, and construction inspection for the complete replacement of the existing bridge on an improved roadway alignment. The new structure consists of a single 14-foot by 7-foot a pre-cast segmental concrete box culvert incorporating a sidewalk on one side.
A complete hydrologic and hydraulic analysis was completed to confirm the required waterway opening to be provided and included field survey to provide hydraulic cross sections of the stream. A scour analysis was also preformed based on geotechnical information obtained from investigations made at the site.
The project, which is funded under the Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) Local Bridge Program (Federal), includes 400 feet of approach roadway reconstruction with associated storm drainage and geometric improvements. Weston & Sampson will also be preparing various environmental permit applications with supporting documentation for the project.
Weston & Sampson also provided full-time inspection of all construction activities, as well as contract administration and coordination of material testing. All construction records were kept and documented in accordance with state and federal policies and procedures.
