Leadership Transition

Transition of Chief Executive Officer from Michael Scipione, PE, to Frank Ricciardi, PE, LSP in 2022

Weston & Sampson, an interdisciplinary firm with more than 700 employees and nationally ranked among the top 140 design firms in the US by ENR, is excited to announce the transition of the role of Chief Executive Officer from Michael Scipione, PE, to Frank Ricciardi, PE, LSP in 2022.
Weston & Sampson has been working proactively and thoughtfully on succession planning to ensure a successful shift in leadership. In the coming year, Frank will continue to work closely with Mike and our corporate leadership team for a seamless transition when he formally takes on the role of CEO in 2022.

Since 2005, Mike has served as CEO and has been instrumental in the firm’s success and growth. Guided by his leadership, Weston & Sampson diversified services centered on the needs of our clients to include energy (renewables, gas, efficiency), climate resiliency, facilities design, and landscape architecture while strengthening our practices in environmental, transportation, water and wastewater engineering, as well as operations and construction. Mike has led the geographic growth of the firm with additional offices throughout the Northeast, Southeast, and Mid-Atlantic regions. Going forward, Mike will shift to a client-facing focus, bringing his technical expertise, consulting experience, and problem-solving skills to support our clients’ environmental and infrastructure projects.

A trusted leader, Frank is innovative, a strategic thinker, and a collaborative teambuilder who welcomes new ideas, seeks out diverse voices, and embraces new technology. A registered Professional Engineer and Licensed Site Professional, Frank has more than 27 years of experience in project management, climate resiliency, environmental consulting, and infrastructure engineering projects. He holds a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from Tufts University, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is the chair of the TSCA and Emerging Contaminant Subcommittee of the Environmental Business Council of New England and an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Licensed Site Professional Association.

Weston & Sampson is a multi-generational, employee-owned firm that has managed six effective leadership transitions over the past 120 years. Since 1899, the firm has strived to make the world a better place by offering interdisciplinary design, engineering, and environmental services. As we begin this transition, Frank will continue to lead our strategic planning efforts, working closely with Mike and the company across Weston & Sampson’s entire footprint. The firm will continue working toward greater innovation and reliability, implementing a workplace culture in which all employees are empowered to do their best work, supporting the diverse communities we serve, and valuing differences as assets to the organization. Weston & Sampson’s ongoing goals include embracing emerging technologies, pursuing sustainable solutions, offering climate-ready designs, fostering mutually beneficial and socially responsible teaming arrangements, seeking out opportunities for enhanced service offerings and geographic growth, all while helping our clients make their world a better place and offering our employees an environment that is inclusive, collaborative, fulfilling, and fun.
