Design-Build of Wastewater System Upgrades at Ocean Edge Resort
Weston & Sampson completed design-build wastewater system upgrades for two separate condominium associations within the Ocean Edge resort in Brewster, Massachusetts. The projects, with a total combined value of approximately $1.2 million, involved the design, permitting, and construction of new wastewater treatment and disposal facilities required to bring the existing failing systems into compliance.
Design efforts included extensive hydrogeological investigations to properly site the disposal fields, as well as the engineering of new treatment system components and effluent dosing pump stations. Permitting efforts included obtaining permission from the local Conservation Commission and from the state’s Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program to construct the facility within the buffer of a locally regulated wetland resource and abutting habitat for several species of significance. To mitigate historic stormwater erosion concerns at one project site, Weston & Sampson designed and constructed a new stormwater management system concurrently with the project.
Construction of the project included the installation of over 1000 feet of forcemain, several large concrete underground tanks and access structures, two duplex submersible dosing stations, control and monitoring equipment, two emergency generators, rehabilitation of a parking lot, and shaping of several acres of a golf course fairway under construction. Weston & Sampson staff managed construction activities and several local subcontractors, along with in-house specialty labor, completed the work.
Despite the fact that each project involved construction during the popular summer season and required extensive coordination with the DEP, residents, and on-going golf course renovations, both projects were completed on schedule and under budget. Weston & Sampson is currently assisting this client with the evaluation and potential rehabilitation or replacement of several additional systems within the complex.
