Weston & Sampson provided consulting services for the redevelopment of the now-vacant Braintree Electric Light Department.
The project required a variety of services, including structural, geotechnical, environmental, and site/civil engineering; surveying; and permitting, to transform the town-owned, two-acre Brownfields parcel into a 56-unit development for a 40B mixed-income residential community. The team worked with the developers to evaluate alternatives for varying complexities at the site. The building was designed to be founded on a combination of shallow foundations and piles.
Located along a tidal river, the project required analysis and consideration of sensitive environmental receptors, soil contamination, inadequate local infrastructure, significant topographic relief, and local zoning restrictions. Weston & Sampson’s structural and geotechnical teams designed a permanent bulkhead along the riverfront. We also supported the project through all local, state, and federal permitting, including Planning Board; Conservation Commission; MEPA; DEP; Chapter 91; ACOE; and Mass Historical Commission.
