Weston & Sampson was engaged by the City of Waltham to provide design and engineering services for the renovation of Falzone Memorial Park. The park is an underutilized open space within the city and its renovation from natural grass to artificial turf will provide a significant improvement to the quality of field play available to Waltham youth sports leagues.
Weston & Sampson led an extensive community process and coordinated with all of the various city departments to ensure that every construction dollar for this park is maximized and will support as many varied city goals for stormwater, traffic, recreation, natural resources, and parkland as possible.
The final design includes a new multi-use field that can accommodate a variety of sports and even multiple games of youth soccer simultaneously. The site grading enabled the design team to terrace seating into the existing land to create a unique spectator experience. The existing building will be relocated to allow for clear visual access into the park and to have a more central presence for important games.
