More than two decades ago, Weston & Sampson, working collaboratively with the Worcester Parks and Recreation Department, completed a comprehensive master plan for the city’s most important public open space.
This project included an intensive community meeting and design development process to plot the course of a 20+ year, multi-million dollar park restoration strategy across a stunning and varied 500-acre park landscape. To date, approximately 10 phases of construction have been accomplished.
Finished work includes a restored circa 1913 (National Register) stone picnic pavilion, expansion of a petting zoo, installation of the Massachusetts Vietnam Veterans Memorial and City WWI Memorial, and major infrastructure improvements that included moving overhead utilities to below ground, new storm drainage and water services, reconstructed/realigned park drives, pathway systems, and “pocket” parking areas and landscape restoration efforts throughout the park.
Other work has included reconstruction of a former wetlands/meadow resource area, accessibility accommodations throughout the park, and landscape restoration efforts throughout.
