Environmental Consulting and LSP Services at Hanscom Field in Response to a Plane crash and Release of Jet Fuel and Hydraulic Oil
On behalf of the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), Weston & Sampson performed environmental consulting and Licensed Site Professional (LSP) services at Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts in response to a plane crash and the subsequent release of jet fuel and hydraulic oil into the Shawsheen River. Our team provided services to meet the requirements of the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP), including a field assessment to define the nature and extent of contamination, remediation coordination and documentation, and restoration of the impact area by the Shawsheen River.
Our responsibilities included surface water and sediment characterization to assess areas downstream of the impact area at the Shawsheen River. We collected surface water samples near the Bedford and Burlington drinking water well fields to confirm that the wells were not impacted. Weston & Sampson also provided Conservation Commission support to Massport; site plans for Conservation Commission meetings; and wetland permitting professionals who offered technical assistance to Massport. We are currently conducting ecological risk assessment activities associated with the Shawsheen River.
