Interactive Water Play Facility

Drake Playground Splashpad

Weston & Sampson performed a survey, obtained permits, and provided design and construction administration services for the development of this water play facility at Drake Playground located on Bacon Street in Waltham. The facility and surrounding playground support the neighborhood, an adjacent elementary school, and the larger community. The new splash pad replaced an outdated and deteriorated wading pool with a new and interactive water play facility. Improvements included demolition of the wading pool; installation of new water, electric, sewer, and drainage improvements; and installation of the splash pad, shade shelters, and related site amenities. The new facility is nestled below the canopies of mature deciduous and evergreen plantings in a manner that provides users plenty of shade within a comfortable and beautiful setting. Weston & Sampson has assisted the City of Waltham with the conversion of seven 1970s-era wading pools into splash pads. The program has been wildly successful and has created opportunities for fun, interactive water play within the context of a traditional neighborhood playground setting at locations across the city.
