These pump stations have withstood the test of time thanks to ongoing maintenance and repair efforts. Recognizing the need for modernization, the city has taken a proactive approach—replacing these aging stations with modern, duplex-style submersible sewer pump stations that are more reliable, easier to maintain, and safer for staff to operate.
Since 2017, Weston & Sampson has partnered with the city to design and provide construction services for five of these replacements. The Cullinane Drive Sewer Pump Station is one such example and included installation of a new wet well, valve vault, sewer grinder manhole, and force main, along with electrical controls, backup power supply, and relocation of existing utilities.
The project presented unique challenges, including the logistics of installing a 32-foot-deep wet well within a small site footprint while keeping the existing station online throughout construction.

Team members from our operations, construction, and engineering divisions came together in South Carolina to strengthen connections, share insights, and look ahead to opportunities in the region.
It’s always energizing when cross-disciplinary teams can meet face-to-face—especially in a setting like Tavern & Table in Mount Pleasant. Thanks to everyone who made the trip and continues to build momentum across the Southeast.
