Pond Adjacent Park Design

Lazazzero Park

The City of Waltham commissioned Weston & Sampson to work with the neighbors, city officials, and Hardy Pond Association -- a grass roots non-profit whose mission includes the protection and appropriate use of Hardy Pond, a treasured resource in Waltham – to craft a master plan that included upgrades to playing fields, play area, water spray, basketball, and a perimeter walking loop that traverses the edge of the entire property. Through a series of meetings, site workshops, and design charrettes, Weston & Sampson and the project stakeholders were able to develop a pragmatic plan.

In order to improve daily operations at the park site and control vehicular access that was compromising the banks of Hardy Pond, a parking lot was designed along Princeton Street. This enhancement sufficiently separated cars and people, and allowed for significant improvements to the banks of the pond. Access amenities include a fishing pier and boat ramp, as well as restored wetland meadows, and the removal of exotic invasive plant species.
