Page Park
Phased Strategic Resign of 80-Acre Recreation Hub
Weston & Sampson provided large-scale planning, design, engineering, and permitting services for the renovation of Page Park in Bristol, Connecticut.
The existing 80-acre park includes a network of vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle circulation paths; parking; water courses; a pond supported by a dam; a disc course; sledding hills; a pavilion; a pool and bath house; racquet and basketball courts; and an active recreation diamond and rectangular fields. Our team guided the city through a list of desired improvements toward a creative, realistic, and sustainable solution that is phased in a logical, fiscally responsible manner. We facilitated the preliminary design process and sought ways to improve the interstitial relationship between the proposed site features. We finessed the design to reduce “leftover” areas of grass that are unusable and difficult to maintain. By reconfiguring this area, we were able to preserve the park’s beloved sledding hill. We also provided geotechnical, stormwater, and utility infrastructure engineering services to determine the best use and appropriate construction methods for multiple courts.
