Municipal Pool Renovation

Rosendale, NY Recreation Center Complex

The Town of Rosendale retained Weston & Sampson to perform an assessment and feasibility study for the municipal swimming pool facility, which had been closed due to excessive leakage and concerns of structural deterioration. Weston & Sampson prepared a feasibility study and a schematic design that proposed a replacement pool facility.

The schematic design of the replacement plan called for the existing 9,200 square foot pool footprint to be split into an activity pool and a lap pool. Programmatically, the design allows each pool to operate separately so that if the activity pool suffers an event of contamination, the lap pool can remain operational.

The new pool facility opened in the summer of 2016 and includes:

  • A lap pool (3,880 square feet) built to competitive standards, enhancing competitive training capabilities
  • An activity pool (4,367) with a zero-entry end that promotes multi-generational enjoyment and ADA accessibility
  • A renovated, ADA-compliant bathhouse with updated facilities and a building addition to accommodate a ticket booth and new locker/bathroom facilities

As part of the master plan, our team also identified and set aside future areas for additional aquatic facilities, including a splash pad/slide.
