Stormwater GIS Utilizing iDataCollect Mobile Data Collection
Weston & Sampson assisted the City of South Burlington in updating their stormwater GIS to improve data collection, accuracy, reporting, and add web-based capabilities.
We utilized our iDataCollect mobile data collection system to enable the South Burlington Stormwater Services Division to electronically capture field data and link this inspectional information back to the GIS. Weston & Sampson created three custom forms for this project:
- Outfall Reconnaissance Inventory
- Stormwater Structure/Drainage Line Inspection Report
- Maintenance Inspections for Storm Ponds/Detention Basins
These forms are available to field personnel through an iDataCollect iPad application. Synch capability is provided via WiFi connection to a cloud server, and data is viewed through a secure web portal.
Weston & Sampson then created a custom export to South Burlington’s GIS. This export automatically extracts inspectional data from the cloud server, imports the data, and links it to the unique asset ID within an inspectional layer in GIS, enabling South Burlington to electronically capture, store, report and analyze data much more efficiently than their paper system.
