Wastewater Services for Woodstock Inn Brewery

Brewery Wastewater Permitting and Pre-Treatment

The Woodstock Inn Brewery is a small, family run craft brewery and inn  that has been producing beer under their own label for over 25 years. Recently, they added a 30-bbl brewing operation to their existing 7-bbl facility, resulting in the need for pre-treatment. After the first system installed did not achieve pre-treatment goals, they contracted with Weston & Sampson to evaluate the existing system and develop alternatives for replacement of the original wastewater pre-treatment system.

Weston & Sampson provided evaluation, piloting, final design, and construction engineering services. Weston & Sampson worked with the Woodstock Inn Brewery, assisting with permitting and design of a biological pre-treatment system for their wastewater discharge to remain compliant with state and local regulations. Wastewater generated by the brewery contains high levels of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and Total Suspended Solids (TSS). Weston & Sampson designed a  pre-treatment system to reduce the levels of these contaminants to be equivalent with domestic wastewater prior to being discharged to the Woodstock municipal collection system.

Other work included the design, specification, and installation of an internally-sourced SCADA system and control panel for automation of some aspects of the process. A detailed process control description and SCADA specification package was developed as part of this project, as a design/build project.
