Gas Main Replacement

Multi-Neighborhood HDPE Gas Main Replacement & Upgrade

Weston & Sampson was selected by the Roanoke Gas Company to design and permit the replacement of two miles of existing 2-inch, Aldyl A, plastic gas main in Botetourt County, Virginia.

The project is to replace an aging gas main installed before 1973, which had become a potential operational risk. The new installation will use 2-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) gas main in four neighborhoods. Our team began by surveying the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) right-of-way to capture existing conditions and develop construction design plans. Using both field and existing data from Roanoke Gas, we mapped roadway structures, land features, and utilities to support the alignment design. The final construction plans included detailed linear alignment views, erosion and sediment control, and VDOT traffic management. We also coordinated permitting and obtained a Land Use Permit from VDOT. The new HDPE main will ensure safer and longer-lasting gas delivery.
