Hazard Mitigation Plan Update
Climate Hazard Update with Public Engagement & Story Map Integration
Weston & Sampson assisted Effingham County and the Georgia communities of Guyton, Rincon, and Springfield with their regional HMP update.
Our team updated the HMP to align with new FEMA guidelines and keep the communities eligible for federal funding in the event of a disaster. With assistance from county staff, we led the public engagement process, which included a citizen survey, an ArcGIS Storymap, website updates, in-person local events, and public meetings, and integrated public input into the final report. Other services included an updated analysis utilizing the FEMA software Hazus to identify areas with a high risk of natural hazards and estimate the physical, economic, and social impacts of various hazards.
