MBTA Stormwater Management Program Development

Transit Stormwater Asset Inventory & Program Planning

Working closely with the MBTA, Weston & Sampson developed a map of the Orange Line and Green Line Subway stormwater systems.

The asset inventory captures stormwater system data, such as locations, materials, conditions, sizes, etc. of outfalls, catch basins, manholes, pipes, interconnection from and to other drainage systems, and treatment systems. Our team gathered, reviewed, digitized, and georeferenced over 854 historic plan sets, approximately 7,300 individual sheets for the Green and Orange Lines. A key element of this project is collaboration with partner consultants. We took the lead in establishing a central location in the cloud where multiple team member organizations could contribute to the digitization of assets from various rail service lines, as well as a status dashboard to track mapping progress and a repository of analyst questions to facilitate the sharing and resolution of conflicts in data sources.
