Toilsome Brook Flood Resiliency Plan
Developing nature-based and hybrid solutions to reduce flood risks and strengthen watershed resilience in Stamford.
Weston & Sampson and Fuss & O’Neill were selected by the City of Stamford to develop a flood resiliency plan for the Toilsome Brook watershed.
This area has experienced flooding problems for serveral decades in the Dannell Drive area. The city secured a grant from the CTDEEP Resiliency Grant Program to fund a study to evaluate nature-based and hybrid flood risk reduction strategies for the Toilsome Brook watershed.
The project includes field data collection, a hydrologic and hydraulic assessment of riverine flooding within the Toilsome Brook watershed, evaluation of flood mitigation alternatives, development of conceptual flood resilience recommendations, and community engagement.
The plan is informed by robust community engagement, which included a project website, an online survey to document flooding conditions, in-person walkshops with residents, and ongoing coordination with an advisory committee, providing detailed, location-specific insights that guided the technical analysis and development of resilience strategies.
