Urban Forest Vulnerability Assessment & Master Plan

Urban Tree Inventory & Master Plan with Student Engagement

Weston & Sampson supported the City of Medford in developing an Urban Forest Vulnerability Assessment to address the impacts of extreme heat, precipitation, and sea level rise through the lens of urban forestry.

Funded by the Massachusetts MVP program, the project included evaluating the impact of various climate hazards on existing tree species, conducting an exposure assessment, developing an urban site index to evaluate high- and low-quality tree planting sites, and preparation of a Tree Planting Toolbox guidance document. We also conducted a comprehensive community engagement program, including developing a stakeholder group, collecting feedback at public tabling events, and establishing a youth outreach program at Medford High School. We are currently working on a second phase to develop an action-oriented city-wide Urban Forest Master Plan.
