Abatement, Demolition, & Restoration

Removal of Structural Hazards with Full-Site Restoration

Weston & Sampson provided abatement and demolition design, bidding, and construction observation services on a parcel owned by the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMA) in Waltham, Massachusetts that presented safety risks from deteriorating and collapsed structures.

Our team designed and oversaw the abatement and demolition of five farmhouse/barn-related structures, including demolition of all ancillary items and site features. We performed a Hazardous Building Materials Inventory (HBMI), obtained MassDEP approval for a non-traditional asbestos abatement work plan, and coordinated utility work with the City of Waltham. We incorporated these designs into plans & specifications as well as our estimated project costs. We also coordinated the on-site reuse of materials including soil and stone foundations. We obtained Waltham Conservation Commission approval for the project and coordinated with the Massachusetts Historic Commission and Waltham Historic Commission. We met with UMA and the state building inspector and provided construction administration and observation services.
