China Trade Center Redevelopment

Hazardous Materials Abatement for High-Profile Urban Redevelopment

Weston & Sampson provided building assessment services for renovation work at the historic China Trade Center for the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA).

Our team assessed the seven-story 60,000-SF building for asbestos, lead, and mold. We recorded the type, quantity, and condition of suspect asbestos containing building materials (ACBMs) present. A Massachusetts licensed Asbestos Inspector collected representative bulk samples of the materials subject to renovation. Our team also collected representative paint chip samples from surfaces of concern, packaged the samples at the site, and submitted them to an accredited analytical laboratory for analysis and determination of lead content by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry. We evaluated the sample results, developed abatement plans and specifications for the building, and provided construction administration and field observation services during abatement activities.
