Community Comprehensive Plan Update

The Town of Johnston selected Weston & Sampson to complete its Community Comprehensive Plan Update.

Johnston Vision 2040 describes the role the town plays as a residential and job center in Rhode Island and the region. The plan discusses how Johnston becomes a hub in a transportation network that is developed to tie the region together while creating residential and commercial growth, making Johnston a vital community in Rhode Island for decades to come.

Similar to a capital improvement plan, Johnston Vision 2040 lays out what must be achieved each year for five years to meet the town’s vision. And like a capital improvement plan, it is updated each year, evaluating what has been achieved and adding a new fifth year to the plan. To achieve this annual update, a component of the plan will contain a framework for annual review of actions and achievements.

In addition to a targeted discussion of growth centers, the plan includes a thorough review of existing conditions and trends, as well as an evaluation of how trends can be leveraged to key in with an overall strategy for the town. The plan is being developed in the context of an inclusive public approach designed to draw out business leaders, underrepresented populations, and the community at large.
