Commuter Rail Parking Facility at Ayer Rail Trail Crossing
Parking Deck & Pedestrian Safety Design at Rail Crossing
The Montachusett Regional Transit Authority (MART) selected Weston & Sampson to design an expansion to their existing commuter rail parking facility, improve pedestrian access to the Ayer Commuter Rail Station, and develop a bus and vehicle drop off/pick up area.
Our goal was to maximize parking on the site, which serves users of both the commuter rail and Nashua River Rail Trail and had limited available footprint for expansion, as well as challenging environmental and topographic conditions. With our subconsultant, THA Consulting, Inc., we prepared alternative parking configurations, as well as construction cost estimates and renderings. After several public hearings, we advanced the selected alternative, a parking deck over the existing parking footprint, through to preliminary and final design phases. Each phase required collaboration with several disciplines, including civil and structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, MEP, and architecture. We also provided bid assistance and part-time construction administration services.
