Comprehensive Community Plan Update
Update of local plan of development
Weston & Sampson assisted the Town of Portsmouth in updating their local plan of development.
The update involved review of natural resources, recreation, historic and cultural resources, housing, economic development, agriculture, services and facilities (e.g., infrastructure), energy, water supply, transportation, natural hazards and climate change, and land use conditions to identify issues and opportunities, goals, policies, and actions. The process was designed to ensure compliance with local needs, the Rhode Island State Guide Plan, and other state policy. The State of Rhode Island subsequently approved the plan.
The scope also included preparing and implementing a significant public involvement strategy. Weston & Sampson facilitated the community input process in collaboration with the Planning Department, involving members of the Comprehensive Community Planning Process Committee (CCPPC), the Portsmouth Planning Board, town staff, and residents who participated in workshops, surveys, and public meetings.
