Depot Street Bridge Design

Weston & Sampson provided design and engineering services for the replacement of the structurally deficient single-span bridge over the Blackstone River in Sutton, Massachusetts.

The existing bridge will be replaced with a 108-foot single-span steel girder and concrete deck bridge. The new concrete stub abutments will be supported on micropiles with the existing concrete gravity abutments remaining for scour protection, and new concrete wing walls supported on micropiles will be constructed at the four corners. Our team provided highway design; a traffic management plan for construction; geotechnical engineering services; utility coordination, including temporary relocation of gas, water, and sewer utilities; wetland flagging and environmental permitting assistance; right-of-way coordination; and public engagement to solicit public and stakeholder feedback.
