Dickinson Street Slope Stabilization
Emergency Slope Stabilization & Drainage Improvements
When the Springfield Department of Public Works contacted Weston & Sampson to provide engineering assistance related to a slope failure on Dickinson Street, our staff was on site within hours to observe site conditions and the commencement of emergency operations.
Our design team evaluated the roadway drainage system components and made recommendations for repair, while geotechnical and site/civil engineering staff assessed site conditions and quickly began design of slope stabilization measures and an access pathway. Immediate stabilization measures consisted of a riprap and crushed stone toe keyway underlain by a geotextile liner. We also prepared design of the roadway, sidewalk, and adjacent utilities. Design was completed within 30 days of the failure event, and final construction was completed within approximately 6 months. Our field observations and documentation allowed the city to efficiently verify contractor invoices, helping track and control costs.
