EOPSS Climate Consultant
Statewide Climate Hazard Planning & Resilience Strategy
Weston & Sampson, in collaboration with the Executive Office of Public Safety & Security (EOPSS), is working to integrate climate resiliency and decarbonization into the planning, policy, and procedures of each EOPSS agency organization.
This project is a priority action item from the 2023 ResilientMass Plan aimed to increase resilience and reduce risks and vulnerabilities related to natural hazards and projected climate changes in Massachusetts. Project goals are to develop a baseline understanding of climate change impacts relevant to each agency; identify and integrate adaptation and mitigation strategies in standard agency planning practices; develop a Five-Year Roadmap to serve as a standard operating procedure, focusing on implementing risk, resiliency, and decarbonization efforts; and create a Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Integration Guide that leverages the knowledge learned through EOPSS and applies it to a broader set of state agencies for use in their planning practices. The project featured several workshops, drop-in sessions, and the creation of multiple guides designed to be regularly updated.
