Flood Vulnerability Analysis
Citywide flood vulnerability assessment to guide resilient planning and investment in Cape Coral.
Weston & Sampson was selected to assist the city in developing a comprehensive flood vulnerability assessment that adheres to the standards of the Resilient Florida Grant Program, the Statewide Flood and Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment and Resilience Plan under Section 380.093 F.S., and the requirements of a CDBG-MIT grant.
The team developed a city-wide asset inventory of about 5,000 assets using an ArcGIS-based approach. The finalized inventory informs the development of a coastal flood risk model to evaluate the effects of sea-level rise, tidal flooding, and storm events on Cape Coral. An adjacent exposure and sensitivity analysis identified the city’s most vulnerable assets. Combined with demographic data from city block groups, this analysis identifies priority areas that require further assessment.
This assessment enables Cape Coral to strategically allocate resources and funding to reinforce and rebuild the areas and assets most susceptible to future flooding impacts, supporting long-term community resilience.
