Hazard Mitigation Plans | 2019 & 2024
Developing FEMA‑Approved Hazard Mitigation Plans Through an Inclusive and Accelerated Process
Weston & Sampson assisted the Town of Narragansett with its Hazard Mitigation Plans (HMP) in both 2019 and 2024.
Both HMPs recommended actions and policies to minimize social and economic losses and hardships resulting from natural hazards. The HMPs were adopted through a complex public and regulatory process that included review by the Local Hazard Mitigation Committee, notice for public comment, public meeting, review and approval by the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency, review and approval by FEMA, and adoption by town council.
During the adoption processes, Weston & Sampson assisted with the final development and drafting of the HMPs, coordinated with state and federal reviewers, presented at public meetings, and incorporated comments from the regulatory and public review processes. A key element of these projects was assisting the town in meeting ambitious schedules to complete and approve the plans. Weston & Sampson helped the town beat the deadlines in both instances.
