Montpelier Parking Garage Site
Brownfields Site Investigation with Groundwater Monitoring
Funded by the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (VTDEC), Weston & Sampson completed Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) for the Montpelier Parking Garage Site in Montpelier, Vermont.
The results of the Phase I ESA identified the potential for contaminants due to high-risk historical operations at the site and nearby properties. A Phase II ESA was completed and included the installation of five soil borings, three of which were completed as groundwater wells. Two groundwater monitoring events were completed at the site, which included sampling the on-site wells and two wells installed on the adjacent and upgradient property. The results of the Phase II ESA indicated that shallow soil throughout the site is impacted with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and arsenic. Limited volatile organic compound (VOC) impacts to soil and groundwater were also identified. Our team completed a Corrective Action Plan for the site, to include the capping the impacted soil and continued monitoring of site groundwater.
