New Department of Public Works Facility – Duxbury
Designing a modern public works campus that supports multiple municipal departments while maintaining operations during construction.
The Town of Duxbury selected Weston & Sampson to design and provide construction administration support for a new Department of Public Works facility at the same location as their existing facility.
After reviewing various scenarios, the town elected to use a phased construction approach which would allow the existing on-site maintenance operations to remain in operation. The project also required coordination with the town’s animal shelter and the harbor master since those two functions/buildings are located at the same site as the DPW and would also need to remain in operation and accessible during construction.
Our team designed a new facility that consists of approximately 33,000 square feet of conditioned space, a 4,000-square-foot exterior canopy, and a 6,600-square-foot membrane salt shed with concrete push walls. The new building houses the relocated Town of Duxbury administration offices, as well as the town’s Water & Sewer, Land & Natural Resources, Maintenance, and Highway Departments that will coexist and operate under the same roof for the first time.
