Peterson Puritan Superfund Site, Operating Unit 2

Independent construction quality assurance for a complex riverfront remediation

Weston & Sampson is providing independent Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) services for the remediation of the 65‑acre Peterson Puritan Superfund Site, Operating Unit 2, located along the Blackstone River in Cumberland and Lincoln, Rhode Island.

The project is being completed under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Superfund Program with oversight from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and addresses historic disposal of contaminated waste, soil, and debris.

The cleanup includes dredging and excavation of impacted materials, consolidation of approximately 380,000 cubic yards of waste into engineered landfill areas, and installation of RCRA Subtitle C hazardous waste caps, along with riverbank restoration and living shoreline features. Acting as an independent third party, Weston & Sampson provides contractor submittal review, construction observation, and testing to verify compliance with approved remedial designs and support regulatory closure of the site.
