Public Works Master Planning
Multi-Phase DPW Planning with Facility Assessment & Site Fit Review
Weston & Sampson was selected to provide comprehensive master planning for a new Public Works Facility in Needham, Massachusetts.
As part of the study, we prepared a space needs assessment, as well as building and site concepts; evaluated alternative sites; prepared cost estimates; and developed a phased Master Plan approach that aimed to control costs and include sustainability measures. The four-phase approach included construction of an offsite salt shed, relocated fuel island, offsite seasonal storage, and consolidated public works facility. We also provided design, permitting, and construction administration services; 3-D building models and renderings; traffic planning; and substantial landscape design. Project design challenges included ledge, slope stabilization, abutters, wetlands, and adjacent transfer station operations.
