Regional Resiliency Plan
Developing a regional resilience framework for 11 localities in the Crater Planning District.
Weston & Sampson is creating a regional resilience plan for the Crater Planning District Commission (CPDC) and its 11 localities.
This plan aims to enhance the region’s ability to handle environmental and climate challenges. The project is set to be completed by spring 2026, with two annual updates planned post-adoption. Once finalized, CPDC localities can apply for grant funding from the Community Flood Preparedness Fund (CFPF) by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
Our team held a knowledge-sharing workshop with the steering committee, engaging stakeholders to assess capacity needs through a survey. We facilitated activities focused on visioning and identifying vulnerable areas to natural hazards. Additionally, we helped CPDC establish a committee of municipal staff from each locality and regional entities.
Weston & Sampson is developing a methodology for the vulnerability assessment of the resilience plan, identifying natural hazards in the CPDC region and researching existing policies and data. The project team is preparing for a second workshop to set goals and objectives for prioritizing action components, scheduled for later this summer.
