Resilient Stormwater Action & Implementation Plan

Weston & Sampson was selected by the City of Waltham, Massachusetts to help them procure grant funding from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Action Grant Program to support a Resilient Stormwater Action and Implementation Plan to address the city’s vulnerable stormwater infrastructure.

The project aimed to create a resilient stormwater management and implementation plan by identifying priority projects and integrating green infrastructure equitably. The team reviewed GIS data, conducted field surveys, and analyzed historic flood information to build a hydraulic and hydrologic model. This informed development of green and grey infrastructure projects evaluated under current and future climate conditions. Over 300 projects were assessed and prioritized with the city, focusing on community impact, environmental justice, and reducing the urban heat island effect. The final Resilient Stormwater Action Plan includes a 10-year capital plan to improve system performance and climate resilience.
