Sanibel Bridge Toll Plaza South Stair Tower Renovation
Stair Tower Retrofit with Structural & Geotechnical Evaluation
Following hurricane damage to the Sanibel Toll Plaza south stairway, Lee County hired Weston & Sampson to provide structural analysis and design for reconstruction.
We performed structural calculations, which analyzed existing conditions, and designed the repair and replacement of components of the structure, including in-kind replacement of the heavily damaged components and replacement of the original shallow spread-footing foundation with a deep foundation system to avoid reoccurring damage by a similar future storm event. The design incorporated the findings and recommendations of a geotechnical engineering subconsultant for the detailing and specification of the deep foundation system and was consistent with Florida Building Code, AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, and FDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction.
