Site Assessment, Building Demolition, Site Clearance & Remediation

Brownfields Demolition & Cleanup with EPA Recognition

Weston & Sampson was retained by the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) to provide professional environmental and engineering services in support of the redevelopment of the former Modern Electroplating facility in Roxbury, Massachusetts.

The BPDA prepared a former industrial site for relocation of the Area B-2 Police Station. The site had a history of solvent degreasing, metal plating, and hazardous waste storage. Our team conducted extensive investigations, identifying contamination in soil, groundwater, concrete, and air, including metals, chlorinated solvents, cyanide, asbestos, and lead-based paint. We developed a remediation plan, designed building demolition and site clearance, and managed abatement and hazardous waste removal. Materials were reused under DEP approval. We also oversaw remedial design, construction, and regulatory compliance, including a vapor barrier and sub-slab depressurization system. The site was redeveloped and now hosts the LEED®-certified Area B-2 Police Station.
