SR 1690 (Broadpointe Drive) Bridge Replacement

Accelerated Bridge Replacement Supporting Southeast Growth Corridor

Working with NCDOT Division 14, Weston & Sampson prepared designs to improve Broadpointe Drive (SR 1690) in Henderson County, North Carolina.

The project included developing alternatives to improve safety and accommodate rapidly increasing traffic volumes due to industrial development along the road, as well as replacement of Bridge No. 107 over McDowell Creek. Our team provided utility coordination, roadway design (including right-of-way, horizontal and vertical alignments, and final construction plans), and hydraulic design (including drainage design, bridge hydraulic design, a FEMA/MOA no-rise study, erosion and sediment control, and permit drawings). As the project was federally funded, we also prepared Programmatic Categorical Exclusion in accordance with NEPA. Our work was successfully completed on an accelerated schedule, 13 months from notice-to-proceed to construction letting.
