Water Storage Tank Replacement

Tank Demolition & Elevated Storage Design for Long-Term Capacity

Weston & Sampson was selected to provide services for the replacement of a 750,000-gallon elevated water storage tank in Reading, Massachusetts.

Our team developed design documents for the demolition of the existing tank and erection of a new tank in its place. To minimize future maintenance expenses and life cycle costs, the town requested a new elevated glass-fused-to-steel tank on a concrete pedestal to replace the existing tank. A new temporary cellular antenna structure was also planned, to avoid disruption in service. This project also includes upgrading the inlet/outlet piping, inclusion of an overhead door to allow for storage and a sampling room within the tank pedestal, and the installation of an active tank mixer. The existing soil in the site was also analyzed and found to be impacted by lead paint. This soil will be removed and properly disposed during tank demolition procedures.
