Babson College Landscape Design
Campus Planning with Pedestrian, Bike, & Multi-Use Connectivity
Babson College selected Weston & Sampson to inventory, analyze, and assess the landscape throughout the residential sector of campus.
Through a series of studies and design charrettes, our team created a landscape framework that is currently being implemented in phases. The master plan identified four important nodes of activity adjacent to the Putney, Keith, Coleman, and the Upper Quad residence halls. The interdisciplinary team, led by landscape architects, created a network of access prioritizing pedestrian and bicycles internally with operations/emergency vehicle access and car traffic kept to the exterior.
While the design of each space has a distinct character that relates to the attendant residence hall, the landscape framework includes a common palette of materials throughout the campus. Where persistent stormwater issues existed, plazas were paved with permeable surfaces and landscape features were designed to absorb and infiltrate as much runoff as possible.
