Smoky Hollow Park Design
Transforming a former industrial site into a resilient urban park through stream restoration, habitat enhancement, and public open space design.
As a subconsultant to Hazen and Sawyer, Weston & Sampson is serving as the lead landscape architect for the transformation of a contaminated 14-acre municipal maintenance yard into a new downtown park and urban green oasis.
The park centers on stream restoration and includes walking paths, plazas, boardwalks, overlooks, gathering spaces, habitat restoration, and a history walk interpreting the site’s evolution from plantation and a Civil War encampment to public recreation space. The design emphasizes durable materials for a floodable landscape and a revegetation strategy that accelerates natural succession to achieve long-term urban reforestation.
