Mary Dennison Park in Framingham is undergoing a transformation to create a more accessible, inclusive, and multi-functional recreational destination for residents of all ages

Weston & Sampson is working with the city to redevelop an existing park into a modern community space that combines active recreation, passive gathering areas, improved amenities, and environmental restoration. With construction underway, the new park will include athletic facilities, playgrounds, fitness areas, water play features, landscape improvements, and supporting infrastructure.

A key feature is a new inclusive playground, designed to accommodate children of varying ages and abilities. This playground includes accessible swings, climbing elements, slides, spinning features, and sensory-focused play opportunities. Equipment was selected to encourage active play while providing opportunities for children of different physical abilities to participate together.

Planned amenities include a skate spot with a variety of ramps, banks, ledges, and other features; an outdoor fitness area equipped with accessible exercise stations; and a spray deck with interactive water play elements. New athletic facilities include a multisport synthetic turf field, a softball field, basketball courts, and a synthetic turf volleyball court to support organized sports, informal recreation, and community events.

This project also includes construction of a restroom and operations support building, providing restrooms, concession space, storage, mechanical systems, and a covered picnic and gathering area. A gazebo, benches, picnic tables, bike racks, trash receptacles, and new lighting are also included to enhance convenience and encourage longer visits.

The project places significant emphasis on landscape and environmental improvements. New trees, shrubs, perennials, and groundcovers will be planted throughout the site, while evergreen buffers will help define park edges and improve screening. Stream bank stabilization and wet meadow restoration measures are also included to reduce erosion, improve site resilience, and strengthen the park’s natural features. Together, these improvements will create a well-rounded community resource that balances recreation, accessibility, and environmental stewardship.
