Boston Ryan Park Playground

Inclusive Waterfront Playground with Green Infrastructure

Weston & Sampson, together with the Boston Parks and Recreation Department (BPRD), is leading a comprehensive multi-phase improvement project at Ryan Playground in Boston, Massachusetts.

The comprehensive assessment, master plan, and schematic design efforts established the guiding design principals for the Phase 2 park expansion. Phase I efforts included public engagement, surveys/mapping, infrastructure assessments, Year 2070 climate resilient evaluations, LSP evaluation/remedial work plans, permitting strategies, and a schematic-level master plan through construction and cost estimating. Phase 2 development includes the anticipated park expansion construction documentation, additional public engagement, permit acquisition, bidding, and construction. This comprehensive park improvement program includes play structures, community spaces, athletic fields, courts, water features, urban heat island reduction, climate-resilient infrastructure integrated within the park design, green infrastructure, harbor’s edge improvements for increased coastal flood resilience, and increased public access.
