Brownfields Environmental Site Assessments

Weston & Sampson was selected by Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments (SCCOG) to assess four former industrial properties located in southeastern Connecticut.

The assessment was funded through a Brownfield Municipal Grant from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development. Our team conducted Phase I and II environmental site assessments (ESAs) at three former mill building sites and one former fuel terminal site. These former industrial properties are currently vacant, but each are planned for significant redevelopment in their respective municipalities. The Phase I ESAs included a review of existing site conditions, a review of previous environmental reports and regulatory history. Phase II ESAs included the collection and analysis of soil and groundwater samples for various constituents of concern (COCs) at identified areas of concern (AOCs), including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) due to former textile manufacturing and past structure fires.
