Coes Park
Universal Access Park with Greenway Connectivity & Inclusive Play
Weston & Sampson, in collaboration with the City of Worcester, developed a master plan for the public lands that surround Coes Reservoir.
The complete plan envisions five interconnected and restored open space properties, creating new and enhanced opportunities for public use. A greenway linking the five sites encircles the eastern, southern, and western edges of Coes Park. Improvements have been implemented incrementally over the past decade. The latest project included a fully inclusive and universally accessible playground, reconstruction of a high hazard dam, and restoration and relocation of the historic Stearns Tavern to the edge of the playground. The tavern contains new community space and a café operated by the Seven Hills Foundation, an organization that employs disabled individuals. Coes Park has become an important destination for city residents, necessitating the construction of additional parking accommodations.
