Comprehensive GIS Update & Asset Management System Procurement
Weston & Sampson assisted the Lynn Water and Sewer Commission in updating its GIS to prepare for future developments and improvements in both technology and administration.
The Commission needed help establishing best practices for data management, storage, and display. Without a centralized GIS data source, internal groups questioned the accuracy and authority of available data. The Commission also sought a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for managing sanitary sewer, stormwater, and water distribution assets. Our team led two phases: 1) migration to a unified GIS data structure (Local Government Model), and 2) drafting a CMMS RFP. We consolidated multiple GIS sources (shapefiles, CADD records, and raster data) into a standardized, shareable database, increasing GIS water system data by 50%. More than 500 record plans were digitized and linked in GIS. For CMMS, we worked with stakeholders to draft technical specifications for a web-based system integrated with ArcGIS.
